    I loved the sports theme to this bag! My son is a Vancouver Canucks (BC Canada) fan and I love the fact this hack doesn't use any zippers! I have the pattern, but was wondering how much material do you need if you reduce it by 85%? Pattern says a fat quarter(?) for the main fabric plus your contrast material. I was thinking of making a fabric bag that is similar to yours and just replace the sports team to suit my son. Thank you for posting this video.

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 2 дня назад

      I would recommend sticking with the fat quarter for any size of this bag. This allows you room to fussy cut your pieces when using themed fabrics. Thanks for watching and enjoy your bag making! ~Deborah

      Yes, the DDL8700 is a few dollars cheaper, but it is not as compact a machine. Many home sewists do not have the room for the larger industrial machine. Additionally, the DDL8700 does not allow for free motion quilting, as the Juki TL-2010Q does. ~Deborah

    Thank you. You explained how to sew curves very well. I would love to see a video about how to piece complete circles rather than four pieces (if it can be done).

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 4 дня назад

      Do you mean complete circles like you see in the video, or complete circles appliqued to the background fabric without seams? I can show either, or both. Great suggestion! Thanks for watching and commenting! ~Deborah

    • @RudyRay01
      @RudyRay01 4 дня назад

      @@piecesofthepast I was wondering if you could piece in a complete circle rather than appliqué it on the top or make it in four parts. A friend told me it couldn't be done. But if you cut the outside/frame of the circle 1 inch smaller than the center circle could it be sewn in the same way you demonstrated?

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 3 дня назад

      Hmm, I am having difficulty understanding the question. What would you do with the circle? Would it be attached to a background fabric? Or, are you talking about something 3D?

    • @RudyRay01
      @RudyRay01 3 дня назад

      @@piecesofthepast Attached to the background fabric with a ¼ inch seam all around. I suppose the end effect would be the same as appliqué, but without the background fabric behind so you have a pieced in circle like a drunkard's path but without the seams.

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 3 дня назад

      I think I understand now. Yes, there is a way to do this. I could not explain it very well here, but if you search for "sewing fabric doughnuts" you should be able to find the technique. If you made your circles this way, the "background" would be hidden. You don't do the stuffing part, just keep it flat. I hope that makes sense. ~Deborah

    Question: I’m thinking of getting this machine but was wondering more about the upper threading. It was hard to see on the video, but it looks like you have to thread through 3 small holes (tension discs?)? That seems like a drag. Is it?

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 8 дней назад

      The three holes at the top are actually a thread guide. I have seen people only thread through one or two of the holes. It only really becomes something to use when using different weights of thread, such as threads for leather or denim, etc. This machine has the one tension disk at the top, which is also for use when you need more fine control of a particular thread. The main tension disk is the same as all other machines and is really the only one that you need to be sure to use when doing all purpose sewing. I hope that helps some. ~Deborah

    Thanks so much for such an in-depth review of this machine!!! I have an older Pfaff plus a Sailrite LSZ that I bought to do cockpit cushions on our boat as well as getting into bag making. However, the Sailrite has some things I intensely dislike so I am looking for a different semi-industrial. I have narrowed it down to the Juki TL2018 (which is really the same exact machine that you just reviewed with the addition of a "microlifter" to raise the pressure foot yet more when needed) or the Janome HD9. So this review was incredibly helpful for me. I really appreciate it!

    I am looking to change my serger to one that is easier ( I struggle with the threading and needle breaking with the phage) that I have ( it’s about 15 year old ) your suggestions?

    • @piecesofthepast
      @piecesofthepast 11 дней назад

      Sergers are not fun to thread, for sure! I have had a few and the one I have now I would recommend to everyone, mainly because of the ease of threading!! Have a look at the Juki MO2000QVP. amzn.to/4dbEPUK. They are quite pricey, but worth every penny. If this one is out of your price range, look for a machine that uses "automatic air threading." That is the most amazing advancement in sergers in a long time. Thanks for asking! ~Deborah

    Nice! The caption says no gluing or sewing but you glued the batting to the board just like everyone else.

      Thanks for the comment. The "no gluing" refers to the binding around the edges. In this techinque, you use wonder under, not HOT GLUE to attach the binding. Thanks for watching! ~Deborah

    I have tried so many times now to download the pattern but it never worked. Is there any other way to fix this? 🤗
